Important information when buying baby wipes
Differences in the wipe, lotion and packaging
Both options are unscented, but the wipe material and lotion differ. Naïf states wood fibres and 99 per cent water. WaterWipes states 99.9 per cent water, grapefruit seed extract and traces of benzalkonium chloride. Here, plastic-free refers to the wipe, not the packaging. The number of ingredients is not a measure of skin tolerance.
Read the label you receive
NVWA explains that cosmetics must state information including the responsible party, contents, shelf life, batch code and ingredients. Warnings and special precautions must be in Dutch where required.
Online shop information may be out of date. Compare the label on the delivered product with the information on which you based your choice.
Waste and alternatives
The Dutch government states that baby wipes should not be flushed down the toilet. Even a wipe sold as plastic-free or biodegradable can block the sewer. Dispose of used wipes in general waste.
At home, you can also use lukewarm water and a soft washable cloth. Choose what is practical and stop using a product if you notice a skin reaction.
Best baby wipes: which suit you?
Naïf uses wood fibres and a lotion of 99 percent water. WaterWipes uses water with grapefruit seed extract and lists traces of benzalkonium chloride. Read the label you receive and watch how the skin reacts. A soft cloth with lukewarm water remains an alternative.
