Important information when buying a sheet or blanket

Differences between a sheet and blanket

The sheet and blanket are not alternatives to each other. The sheet is made from cotton; the knitted Basic Knit also contains acrylic and has no teddy lining. Both measure 75 by 100 cm. Check that you can tuck them securely into your cradle. If you use a suitable sleeping bag, extra bedding is usually unnecessary.

Keep the bedding low and tuck it in securely

Place your baby with their feet close to the foot of the bed, and tuck the sheet and blanket in securely. Keep the head uncovered. VeiligheidNL recommends a blanket that is not too thick; the material alone does not determine its warmth.

A well-fitting baby sleeping bag is an alternative. Usually, do not add a sheet and blanket as well. If you are unsure about keeping your baby warm during the first postnatal week, discuss this with the kraamzorg professional.

What we look for

  • Consider the size of the bed and how much fabric is needed to tuck everything in securely.
  • Compare the thickness of the blanket and any lining.
  • Adapt bedding and clothing to the temperature. More layers are not automatically better.
  • A suitable sleeping bag is another way to keep your baby warm; extra bedding is usually unnecessary when using one.
