Important information when buying a baby bed
Differences between the cots
All three have two base heights and are intended for a separate mattress measuring 60 by 120 centimetres. SNIGLAR is made from beech, and SMÅGÖRA has a white finish. With ÄLSKVÄRD, you can later replace one side with the included conversion rail as described in the instructions.
Choose the mattress separately
You buy the mattress separately for these cots. Check the size, maximum thickness and height mark in the cot instructions, and use one suitable mattress.

An empty, well-fitting sleeping space
VeiligheidNL recommends a firm, flat, well-fitting mattress and an empty bed. Do not place a pillow, cot bumper or soft material beside the mattress to fill a gap.
Do not place the bed near cords, curtains or anything else in which a child could become entangled. Lower the base as soon as your child has outgrown the higher setting according to the instructions.
Checking a second-hand bed
Ask for the brand, model number and instructions. Use the bed only if it is complete, with no cracks, loose joints or homemade modifications. Also check current safety warnings from the manufacturer and NVWA.
Best baby beds: which one suits you?
There is no single best baby bed for everyone. If you want to use a cradle for the first few months, check how it attaches to your bed, the supplied mattress and the usage limits. If you choose a cot, compare its size, base settings and whether you can remove a side later. The main difference between the two fixed-side cots is the finish. Choose what suits your space and how you plan to use it; a more expensive bed is not automatically safer.
